Pennant Information for Bowlers

PENNANT

Etiquette of the Game of Bowls

Many long-standing friendships exist due to the courtesies extended to our visitors. Our reputation as a friendly, hospitable Club should be valued and nurtured by all members. In the Clubhouse and on the Green genuine hospitality and friendly sporting acts are appreciated and reciprocated. Attending to the visitors’ needs at the afternoon tea break and after the game are practical examples of etiquette.

Pennant Draws are available on the Keilor Bowls and Community Club website and are distributed to all members via email.

MATCH DAY DUTIES

Team Manager Duties

The Team Manager has an important role to play in promoting Keilor as a well-managed, efficient and friendly club. For home games, the Team Manager is required to be at the clubhouse at least an hour before the game to welcome the visiting Team Manager and to prepare for the pennant game.  The Team Manager also has an important role liaising with Skips and Umpires as may be necessary on the day.

Drawing of Rinks

The draw for rinks shall be done by the opposing Managers, who exchange cards and then shuffle them. The cards of one side are placed names down and the opposing Manager places a card on each. The teams shall play as drawn.

Order of Play

The Manager of the home side tosses the coin and the opposing Manager has the call.

Managers should:

  • Ensure the score cards (3 or 4) tally up with the opposition cards by meeting up with the Opposition Manager at the completion of the game, home and away.
  • Enter the results for the 4 rinks on the Pennant Result Board then place the cards on the Notice Board inside the Board room or leave them in the Manager’s plastic folder.
  • A Designated Manager will enter the results for each side via BowlsLink, so please make sure you as Manager leave them pinned to the Notice Board or in the plastic folder.
  • Second’s, don’t wait to be asked, make sure you hand over your score card to the Manager at the completion of play.

The Side Captain has a number of important roles in preparation for play and in gathering objective feedback on performance and assisting selectors in their roles.
