Rosny Park Update

REPORT ON ROSNY PARK BOWLS TRIP

On Thursday the 15th April, 15 of Keilor’s finest flew down to Hobart to play against Rosny Park Bowling Club, and next year Rosny will come to Keilor.

As with Covid,  all travelers had to get a permit into Tasmania and a permit on our return to Victoria. After an early flight and checked into our hotel the group joined Rosny for a practice and a welcome drink. Dinner that night was held at an excellent seafood restaurant (The Drunken Admiral).

On Friday, everyone was up early to take the bus to Rosny for Round 1, with 2 games of 2 bowl triples x 15 ends. Ladies provided an excellent morning tea to start the day. After rounds 1 & 2,  Keilor had 7 wins to Rosny’s 3 wins, 10 points win 1 point end won Keilor all smiles. Black Buffalo Bar was busy that night, while some members headed to the Rockwall Restaurant owned by former Melbourne footballer Gary Baker.

Saturday was a rest day where most walked to Hobart’s Salamanca Market, with scallop pies for lunch and a visit to the Custom House Hotel where we had a toast to our missing members.

A Rosny member, who is a life member and premiership player, invited us all to attend a local football match at Blundstone Arena Bellerive Clarence vs North Launceston. We all wore our Keilor jackets and helped get Clarence over the line with our vocal support. We were lucky to have one of our members who is a leading Umpire Adviser at the AFL level Steve Martin, who pointed out the shocking umpiring was within limits – it was such a great afternoon.  That night, we were all off to D’Angelo’s Italian restaurant and we would like to thank a Keilor member who was not able to make the Hobart trip for his very generous donation towards the cost of the meal – Thank you Paul.

Sunday saw us back at Rosny all confident – wrong House Rules into effect! A much better Rosny team won 7 rinks to Keilor’s 3 match in the balance, which came down to ends won and Rosny fell over the line –Well done Rosny.  Trophy for best Keilor player over the four games was Brian Moore – well done Brian. Money from both clubs went over the bar and all agreed to the spirit and friendship by Rosny and Keilor of the highest order.

I am sure all Keilor members would like to thank Rosny for their hospitality and we will look forward to their visit in 2022.

A special thanks to Keith Hinks for being our team Manager, and to Bob, Bernie and Joe for trip arrangements and getting us there and back.

A good time had by all and a credit to KBC.
